M-Net fires recruitment agency over racist job advert that reads ‘only whites need apply’
South African TV channel, M-Net has distanced itself from a “whites only” vacancy advertised at the company.
The advert for a job at M-Net was posted online on a recruitment agency website and it reads; 'we
are specifically looking for a white, English-speaking commissioning
editor as this role is for someone who will produce soapies and
programmes in this specific demographic'.
M-Net has fired the recruitment company responsible saying it did not
authorise the advert, and the process was managed by Ambit Recruitment
which then subcontracted another group without M-Net's consent.
M-Net CEO Yolisa Phahle is quoted as saying: 'M-Net
was absolutely appalled to learn about this advert. We would never
advertise for a position in this way. It is clearly racist, against the
constitution and against our values'.
