South African court of Appeal increases Oscar Pistorius's jail sentence to 13 years and five months
The Supreme Court of Appeal ruled on Friday that Oscar Pistorius's sentence be increased to 15 years.
Pistorius
will serve an effective 13-year sentence, due to time already served,
after the court delivered judgment on the National Prosecuting
Authority's appeal against Pistorius's jail term.
Prosecutors argued that the six-year term for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp is too short.
eNCA
specialist reporter Karyn Maughan, who has been following the Pistorius
story, says the prosecutors were"extremely confident" the court will
decide in their favour.
"They have made a case that the sentence was low and inappropriate and must be substituted with a minimum of 15 years."
Pistorius was sentenced to six years in prison after the initial charge
of culpable homicide was overturned by the SCA and substituted with one
of murder.
