Amtrak train crash: People confirmed dead after train 'carrying 200 people' derails off Washington bridge onto busy highway
A high-speed train has derailed off a bridge and onto a packed highway in
Washington.
A dramatic picture shows part of the train hanging from a bridge over Interstate 5 in Pierce County.
A number of vehicles are reported to have been struck with emergency services reported to be responding to a "mass casualty incident".
According to NBC, the train was carrying around 200 passengers at the time of the crash.
Passenger Chris Karnes told CBS: “We were reaching sort of a bend in the tracks, and all of a sudden, we were slammed into the seats in front of us.
"And then the car careened down an embankment."

The Amtrak train derailed in Dupont after it departed
from Tacoma en route to Portland in Oregon, KIRO7 reports.
The company said it was "aware" of an incident involving its 501 train but
gave no further details at this stage.
Some reports on Twitter suggested the train was on the first day of a new
route when it crashed.
The trains are reported to accommodate up to 250 people with nine passenger
carriages, according to reports.
US authorities have warned the road will be closed for some time and advised
