Gambian army chief pledges allegiance to defeated president

The head of Gambia's army has given his full backing to the country's president, Yahya Jammeh, amid a deepening political crisis.
Mr Jammeh suffered a surprise electoral defeat last month to Adama Barrow.
He initially accepted the result but changed his mind days later, citing electoral "abnormalities".
In a letter to the pro-government newspaper, Gen Ousman Badjie pledged the "unflinching loyalty and support of the Gambia Armed Forces" to Mr Jammeh.
Gen Badjie's intervention follows the threat of military action by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) if Mr Jammeh refuses to leave office on 19 January.
President Jammeh has said any such intervention would constitute an act of war.
Mr Barrow's team had previously claimed the support of Gen Badjie. The army's support is seen as critical in building a transition after Mr Jammeh's 22 years in power.
The tiny West African state has not had a smooth transfer of power since i…

Megyn Kelly is now one of the highest-paid hosts on TV — here's where her salary ranks

After 12 years with Fox News, Megyn Kelly is moving on and up to host several shows at NBC.  In a broad multiyear deal with the broadcast network, Kelly will anchor an NBC News program on Sunday evening, host an hour-long daily daytime news talk show, and become a mainstay in special political news events.
The new gig means that Kelly will also raise her salary from the previously reported $10 million to $12 million range at Fox to likely between $15 million and $20 million at NBC, according to The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
So where does that place Kelly's paycheck versus the salaries of other big TV hosts?
In October, Variety released estimated numbers for the salaries of a range of TV actors and personalities. The estimates are based on surveys of actors, executives, attorneys, agents, and other representatives.

As many as 20 friends were watching as she wiped beads of sweat from her brow, her uncle Jeffery Herndon told The Washington Post.
