The Tree Man is no longer. Thanks to some groundbreaking surgeries, he can go back to being Abul Bajandar, a 27-year-old father and husband from a small town in Bangladesh.
Bajandar suffered from a rare condition that caused his hands to sprout tree-like warts. He lived with it for years before beginning surgery to remove the growths last February.  Since then he has had 16 procedures to restore his hands, and will undergo a few more before he is released from the hospital.  Dr. Samanta Lal Sen, chief plastic surgeon at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, told CNN Bajandar is in "very good shape" now, and can eat and write using his own hands. The further procedures, he said, are more for "beautification."  A life nearly stolen by a curious disease Bajandar suffered from epidermodysplasia verruciformis, a disease so rare there have only been a handful of reported cases around the world. It is caused by a defect in the immune system which increases one's sus…

Donald Trump Says He’s Not Surprised by Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes Speech

President-elect Donald J. Trump dismissed Meryl Streep as “a Hillary lover” early Monday morning after the actress, in a speech at the Golden Globes award ceremony, denounced him as a bully who disrespected and humiliated others.
Mr. Trump, in a brief telephone interview, said he had not seen Ms. Streep’s remarks or other parts of the Globes ceremony, which were broadcast on NBC, but he added that he was “not surprised” that he had come under attack from “liberal movie people.”
The Globes were the last high-profile Hollywood event before Mr. Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, a transfer of power that many in the entertainment industry have bemoaned.

While anti-Trump comments at the Globes were relatively restrained, Ms. Streep, one of the most outspoken progressives in the film world, mounted a powerful critique of Mr. Trump’s abilities as a performer, complimenting in a backhanded way a style of showmanship that she all but called insidious.

Plain clothes policemen claiming to be acting on information ministry orders told the station to stop broadcasting late Sunday, sources told AFP.

Apple cuts Tim Cook's pay 15% for missing sales goals

Apple's sales slump is taking a bite out of Tim Cook's paycheck.
The iPhone maker cut Cook's pay by 15% last year to $8.7 million, according to a filing released on Friday.
Apple(AAPL, Tech30) specifically cited the company's failure to meet its performance goals for both sales and profits. Shrinking iPhone sales last year caused Apple to suffer its first annual revenue decline in 15 years.
Now Apple's board is holding its CEO and other leaders accountable for the stumbles.
While Cook's salary rose to $3 million from $2 million last year, his cash bonus took a hit. Apple awarded Cook and other executives 89.5% of their target, instead of the maximum amount like in recent years.
That meant Cook's cash bonus fell to $5.4 million in 2016, down from $8 million the year before. All told, Cook's total compensation was $8.7 million last year, compared with $10.3 million in 2015.
But don't feel too bad for Cook, whose real fortune is linked to his v…

I’ve not hijacked Bawumia’s official residence – says Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has described as “mischievous” reports making rounds that he has refused to vacate his official residence to allow the current vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to occupy it.
Mahama has been staying in the Cantonments residence ever since he was vice president and requested to use it as his “retirement home” before the dissolution of the Sixth Parliament after losing the December 2016 elections.
However, there are reports that Dr. Bawumia is “stranded” since he has nowhere to move to as his official residence.
Reacting to the claim, Mahama said a section of the media is being used to “embarrass” him when he had formally informed the incoming administration through his former chief of staff Julius Debrah to continue staying in the house.
Mr. Debrah’s letter reads in part, “Reference our (Osafo-Marfo/Debrah) discussion of 19th December 2016 on the above stated matter, we wish to indicate that H.E President John Dramani Mahama would like to …

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha provided the decisive cross on his Ivory Coast debut as the African champions beat Sweden 2-1 in an Africa Cup of Nations warm-up match on Sunday.
The former England international, who switched his allegiance to The Elephants ahead of their Nations Cup defence, came off the bench in Abu Dhabi to provide the perfect cross for Giovanni Sio who headed home a winner.
An own-goal from Wilfried Kanon had put Sweden ahead, with Yao Serge Nguessan equalising on the stroke of half-time.
24-year-old Zaha was born in Ivory Coast but has two England caps having played against Sweden in November 2012 and Scotland the following year.
As both were friendly matches, he was permitted to commit his international future to his country of birth. The Ivorians have been preparing for the Nations Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

They were believed to be victims of “modern Day slavery” from  Northern Ghana and were returning home after a yearlong toiling in farm fields of wealthy commercial farmers in Nigeria.
There is a common practice in the two poverty stricken districts where parents of teenagers are often tricked to enter a year agreement with some  rich individuals from Nigeria, according to a resident of Saboba, Yaw ‘Operator’.
