Video: Steve Harvey faces backlash for mocking Asian men

Steve Harvey has caused trouble with a new clip from his show.
The talk show host has come under fire for comments he made about Asian men during his "Steve Harvey Show" on Friday. A clip of the moment began gaining viral attention after it circulated online this week.
During the show, Harvey shares a 2002 book cover with the title "How to Date a White Woman: A Practical Guide for Asian Men."
"Excuse me, do you like Asian men?" he said. "No, thank you."
He said if there was a similar book titled "How to Date a Black Woman: A Practical Guide [for] Asian Men," it would be "one page too!"
"'You like Asian men?' 'I don’t even like Chinese food. It don’t stay with you no time … I don’t eat what I can’t pronounce."
As Harvey made the comments, he frequently paused to laugh at his own jokes.

But plenty of people didn't see the humor in his bit.
"This was so not necessary and down right disrespectful,&quo…

Messi's statue vandalised in Buenos Aires

As the popular saying goes, a prophet is not without honour except in his own land. That is the situation Messi has found himself in. For years he has been the face of the Argentine national team, the heir to the immortal Maradona but some believe he has let them down.
There are many Argentines who believe he is more committed to Barcelona than he is to the national team and it may be such characters who are responsible for the latest act of vandalism on the player's person. Just hours before Ronaldo was confirmed as the world's best player, the occasion was foreshadowed by a curious incident in his eternal rival's homeland. Vandals in Buenos Aires set upon a statue of Lionel Messi and cut it in two removing the the head, arms and torso.  The sculpture was erected in June last year after Messi retired from international football following his Copa America heartbreak. He later rescinded his decision and came out of retirement. The Buenos Aires municipal government s…

Jenner, 66, initially offered to become a "trans ambassador" for Trump's opponent Ted Cruz during the race for the American seat of power, but she also praised Trump multiple times in the months leading up to the election.
"He seems very much behind the LGBT community because of what happened in North Carolina with the bathroom issue. He backed the LGBT community," she told STAT in June.
Shortly after a discriminatory bathroom law passed in North Carolina that ruled transgender citizens had to use the bathrooms assigned to their birth genders, Trump invited Jenner to use whichever bathroom she wanted in any of his buildings.
She took him up on the offer i…

Gambia's President Jammeh vows 'to stay till election ruling'

Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has said he will not step down before a Supreme Court decision on disputed elections, a ruling now not expected until May.
In a nationwide TV broadcast, the longstanding ruler also reiterated his concern at "foreign interference".
Regional mediators, led by Nigeria's president, are expected in The Gambia on Friday to urge him to accept defeat following December's election.

Mr Jammeh, who initially accepted defeat in the 1 December poll, lodged a case before the Supreme Court after the electoral commission changed some results.
But the commission insists the outcome was not affected by an initial error and property developer Mr Barrow narrowly won.
Mr Jammeh seized power in the tiny country in 1994 and has been accused of human rights abuses, although he has held regular elections.
The president made his speech on Tuesday evening after it was announced that the Supreme…

Meryl Streep's Golden Globes Speech Belied An Inconvenient Truth About Hollywood

When beloved actress Meryl Streep used her lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes Sunday as an opportunity to denounce the president-elect, her fans along with critics of Donald Trump  predictably went wild.
Streep was praised for her candor and bravery. The Academy Award winner left fellow A-listers with tears streaming down their faces as she described how her heart “broke” when Trump mocked Serge Kovaleski, a New York Times reporter with arthrogryposis, at a campaign event in 2015.
The president-elect denied that he’d mocked Kovaleski, and dismissed Streep as a “Hillary flunky.” His supporters claimed the speech epitomized everything that’s wrong with the liberal elite. But they weren’t the only ones with criticism: Many members of the disability community pointed out that Streep’s comments stand in stark contrast to the ways in which people with disabilities are shut out of awards shows and the entertainment industry as a whole. Outside of Streep’s reference t…

A U.S. jury on Tuesday condemned white supremacist Dylann Roof to death for the hate-fueled killings of nine black parishioners at a Bible study meeting in a Charleston, South Carolina, church in 2015.
The same jury last month found Roof, 22, guilty of 33 federal charges, including hate crimes resulting in death, for the shootings at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Jurors deliberated for less than three hours. Roof showed no emotion as the verdict was read, Charleston's Post and Courier newspaper reported.
"Justice is served in Charleston," Malcolm Graham, shooting victim Cynthia Hurd's younger brother, said in a post on Twitter following the verdict. "There's no place in a civilized society for hatred, racism or discrimination."
Roof, who represented himself for the penalty phase, was unrepentant during his closing argument earlier in the day. He told jurors he still felt the massacre was something he had to do and did no…

Volkswagen has agreed a draft $4.3bn (£3.5bn) settlement with US authorities over the emissions-rigging scandal.

VW said it was in advanced discussions with the Department of Justice and US Customs about the deal.

VW has already agreed to a $15bn civil settlement with environmental authorities and car owners in the US.
