George H.W. Bush, wife Barbara, recovering from illnesses

Former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, continued to improve Saturday as they recover from illnesses at Houston Methodist Hospital, a family spokesman said.
"President Bush is breathing well without any mechanical assistance, his spirits are high, and he is looking forward to getting back to a regular schedule," spokesman Jim McGrath said.
Bush, 92, entered the hospital a week ago after experiencing breathing difficulties that doctors determined were related to pneumonia. Physicians on Wednesday inserted a breathing tube, a ventilator was employed to assist his breathing and he was moved into intensive care. The tube was removed Friday.
"President Bush will be remaining in the ICU for observation for a few more days," McGrath said. "He is looking forward to getting back to a regular schedule."
The nation's 41st president felt well enough to call his office Friday evening to check in with his staff, according to McGrath.

Gambia's Yahya Jammeh arrived at the airport in the capital Banjul on Saturday in the company of mediator Alpha Conde, the president of Guinea, after stepping down from power, witnesses said.
Jammeh was likely headed into exile, mediators said.
Jammeh took power in 1994 and stepped down overnight in the face of pressure from West African armies that entered Gambia to force him to recognise he lost an election to President Adama Barrow.

Women poured into the US capital on Saturday to march in opposition to US President Donald Trump, while sister demonstrations took place in cities across Europe, Africa and Asia.
Saturday's protests came just a day after Trump, a right-wing Republican, took office.
In addition to Washington, DC, demonstrations against Trump's discriminatory rhetoric took place in Sydney, London, Berlin, Tokyo, Paris, Stockholm and elsewhere. 
Trump has drawn the ire of liberals, leftists and other progressives for sexist comments and xenophobic language, while many abroad are worried over his inaugural vow on Friday to put "America First" in his decision-making.

16 people dead as bus crashes in Italy

According to Italian news agency ANSA, a bus returning from a private school vacation hit a pylon of a bridge near Verona in northern Italy this day, leaving taking into consideration at least 16 people dead and 39 others disrespected.

Video: Alleged New York City Bucket of Gold Thief Arrested In Ecuador

A man has been arrested in Ecuador accused of stealing an 86lb (36kg) bucket of gold flakes worth $1.6m (£1.2m) from a truck in New York.
Julio Nivelo, 53, was detained in the west of the country. His lawyers say he was not even in the US at the time of the theft.
Video footage captured the incident last year, showing a man struggling with the weight of the loot and having to put it down to rest.
The gold is yet to be recovered.
