Russia's Alexei Navalny found guilty of fraud

A court in a provincial Russian city has found opposition politician Alexei Navalny guilty in a retrial of a 2013 fraud case, which means that he cannot run for president next year.
In a webcast hearing on Wednesday in Kirov, a city nearly 800km east of Moscow, Judge Alexei Vtyurin handed down a five-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of about $8,500 to Navalny for embezzling timber worth about $500,000.
Navalny, 40, pledged to appeal the "politically motivated" ruling and continue with his plans of challenging President Vladimir Putin in the upcoming presidential elections even though the Russian law bars anyone convicted of a crime from running for a public office for 10 years.
Igor Sutyagin, a senior research fellow in the Russian studies department at RUSI UK, says the verdict shows Putin's weakness, "eliminating even tiny, but realistic" competition.
"He announced his plans to run for the presidential election, but he wouldn't have m…

Qatar is spending almost $500m (£400m) a week on major infrastructure projects as it prepares for the 2022 Fifa World Cup, its finance minister has said.
Ali al-Emadi expected spending to continue at that level for three to four years as new stadiums, motorways, rail links and hospitals are built.

Annie~Joy writes: Your Previous Actions!! Be Inspired!!!

At your tender age, some actions and attitudes you demonstrated have kind of generated delays and pot holes in your Life today. You use to consider everything normal. Things like teasing teachers by making fun of them in one way or the other, laughing at an elderly who might not be looking quite good and the rest. Usual relationship which you ended up making huge sacrifices yet nothing meaningful was produced. Sometimes, you just wish time could go back for you to correct some errors because that friend who dragged you into the bad habit is even out and making it big.  The previous actions are turned at and you’re soaked with tears and bitterness. I don't know the actions and attitude you showed at your tender stage which I will say you are reaping the seed you’ve sown but all I want to say is, forgive yourself and look forward. What is left is more valuable than what is wasted. Time cannot go back for corrections to be made.  I want to encourage you today, don’t let yo…

You may have to present your social media passwords before getting U.S. visa – Security Chief, John Kelly

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary, John Kelly has said that in order to tighten security in the country, visa applicants, especially those from seven Muslim-majority countries that were temporarily banned from entering the U.S may be required to provide their social media passwords.
He made this known to a hearing of the Homeland Security Committee. “We’re looking at some enhanced or some additional screening. We may want to get on their social media, with passwords. It’s very hard to truly vet these people in these countries, the seven countries. But if they come in, we want to say, what websites do they visit, and give us your passwords. So we can see what they do on the internet These are the things we are thinking about. But over there we can ask them for this kind of information and if they truly want to come to America, then they will cooperate. If not, next in line,” Kelly said. Kelly stressed that no decision had been made, but tighter screening would be implemented, e…
