Video: Police officer attacked at Flagstaff House

Heavily built civilians believed to be members of the ‘Invisible Forces’ of the ruling New Patriotic Party have been captured in a video attacking a policeman at the seat of government – the Flagstaff House.
Sources say the assault took place on January 9 – the first day President Akufo-Addo reported to work.

The video which has gone viral on social media, but cannot be authenticated by reveals how the ‘vigilante group’ chased the police officer by name ASP Nanka Bruce who sought refuge in a police vehicle.
The officer, who is believed to be part of the guards at the Flagstaff House during the John Mahama administration, was seen moving out of the premises of the presidency, but was stopped by an armed military officer and was subsequently brutalized and forced out of the car, despite attempts by senior police officers to restore order.

Kenyan couple treated to lavish ceremony after $1 wedding

A Kenyan couple who spent just $1 (£0.80) on their wedding have renewed their vows in a lavish Valentine's Day ceremony funded by well-wishers.
News of their budget wedding last month went viral on social media and many Kenyans offered to help.
At their first wedding, Wilson and Ann Mutura wore jeans and T-shirts and two steel circles served as rings.
Kenya media estimated their second wedding party cost $35,000 at an upmarket venue in the capital, Nairobi.
The BBC's Peter Mwai in Nairobi says as the couple had already officially tied the knot, they exchanged new rings at the Valentine's Day ceremony.
Our correspondent says some Kenyans online have been questioning why the organisers spent so much money on the party instead of supporting the couple financially.

Actress Ama K. Abebrese has covered the February edition of lifestyle magazine Fame Xtra. Posing alongside Chris Okagbue (with whom she co-stars in their forthcoming Lotanna movie).
Dubbed the Love Issue, the edition which is themed around the Valentine season , also discusses the movie, which is set for the big screens in April.
An epic drama, Lotanna was directed by Toka Mcbabor, and also stars  Liz benson Ameye, Jide kososko, Chris Attoh, Kenturah King, Victor Olaotan, Meg Ontanwa, Henry Adofo, and Raymond Iorkohol.
Ama is also a TV personality, and is recipient of enviable laurels including  for Best Actress in a Lead Role 2011 (AMAA), and Best Media Personality (GUBA, 2010).

Alanis Morissette Home Burglarized, $2 Million Stolen

Alanis Morissette is the latest celebrity burglary victim, and may have suffered the largest amount of damages to date: $2 million worth of jewelry was allegedly stolen.
The crime went down last Thursday at Morissette’s home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. The thief or thieves broke into the residence and managed to take off with a valuable amount of bling. According to TMZ, it’s unclear if other property was stolen, too.
The singer was not home at the time of the incident, which comes less than a month after Morissette’s business manager admitted stealing millions from her while handling her investments. As part of a plea deal, he copped to embezzling $4.8 million from his famous client. Though he and Morissette settled privatevly, the manager is still facing several years in prison for his crimes.

North Korean leader's brother Kim Jong-nam killed at Malaysia airport

The estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been murdered in Malaysia, a South Korean government source said on Tuesday.
Kim Jong Nam, the older half brother of the North Korean leader, was known to spend a significant amount of his time outside the country and had spoken out publicly against his family's dynastic control of the isolated state.
In a statement, Malaysian police said the dead man, aged 46, held a passport under the name Kim Chol.
Kim Jong Nam has been caught in the past using forged travel documents.
Police official Fadzil Ahmat said the cause of Kim's death was not yet known, and a post mortem would be carried out on the body.
"So far there are no suspects, but we have started investigations and are looking at a few possibilities to get leads," Fadzil told Reuters.
According to Fadzil, Kim had been planning to travel to Macau on Monday when he fell ill at the low-cost terminal of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

The Gambia: UK 'very pleased' about Commonwealth return

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, who is in The Gambia, has said he is "very pleased" the West African state intends to rejoin the Commonwealth.
His visit, the first to The Gambia by a British foreign secretary, comes weeks after long-time ruler Yahya Jammeh went into exile after losing elections. 
Mr Jammeh took The Gambia out of the Commonwealth in 2013, calling it a neo-colonial institution. New President Adama Barrow had promised a return to the 52-nation grouping.
Before leaving for Banjul, Mr Johnson said: "We will ensure this happens in the coming months. 
"The strength of our partnerships show that Global Britain is growing in influence and activity around the world." 
The Commonwealth secretariat said it welcomed the news, saying the formal process of rejoining would have to be agreed by the 52 heads of government.

Prolific song writer and international gospel musician, Don Moen, will headline a mega gospel concert to mark Ghana’s 60th Independence celebration on March 6.
The multiple-award winning gospel act, noted for popular songs which include; ‘Give thanks’, ‘God will make a way’ among others, has graced several shows in Ghana including a two-day concert in December 2009 at the Independence Square.

Disney drops YouTube star PewDiePie over anti-Semitism

Disney has cut ties with the world's highest paid YouTube star PewDiePie over allegations of anti-Semitism.
The decision came after several videos he released over the past few months were found to contain Nazi references or anti-Semitic imagery.
PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, accepted the material was offensive, but said he did not support "any kind of hateful attitudes".
The Swede is reported to have made $15m through YouTube in 2016.
He has been associated with Disney via Maker Studios, a company with a network of YouTube stars, drawing several billions of views per month - generating vast income from advertising. 
"Although Felix has created a following by being provocative and irreverent, he clearly went too far in this case and the resulting videos are inappropriate," Maker Studios said.

Melania will keep Michelle's veggie garden

First lady Melania Trump seems to have found an issue on which the Trump and Obama administrations can agree: They both cherish the White House gardens. 
While touring a Japanese garden Saturday in Florida, the new first lady declared herself a "caretaker and nurturer," and promised to preserve one of her predecessor's signature projects, the White House Kitchen Garden. 
"As a mother and as the first lady of this country, Mrs. Trump is committed to the preservation and continuation of the White House Gardens, specifically the First Lady's Kitchen Garden and the Rose Garden," according to a statement to CNN.
The statement was issued by Mrs. Trump's unofficial spokeswoman (she's still in the process of hiring an official press secretary), Stephanie Winston Wolkoff.

Zimbabwean woman pledges daughter as tithe

A Zimbabwean woman who suffered a number of miscarriages early in her marriage has offered her daughter as tithe to her church leader. The woman identified as Convictions Mapfumo from Sally Mugabe Height gave her child, a grade three student to Bishop Susan Zika Dube, the founder of  Holy Baptist Apostolic Church. Mapfumo is said to have experience painful miscarriages four times  but after the Bishop prayed for her, she gave birth to three girls born in 2005, 2009 and 2001.

Speaking to Zim News, she said: After my struggle to conceive, I decided to give this child to God as a tithe to thank him for answering my prayers. I was prayed for by the leader of the church. I have also given myself to working in this church because there is nothing more I can give to God for what he has done for me,' she said. Mapfumo also said she has registered her church leader as the mother of the child on her birth certificate.  Would you gladly do this too, if you were in her shoes?

Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn resigns

President Donald Trump's embattled national security adviser Michael Flynn resigned late Monday night, following reports that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence and other officials about his contacts with Russia. His departure upends Trump's senior team after less than one month in office.
In a resignation letter, Flynn said he held numerous calls with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. during the transition and gave "incomplete information" about those discussions to Vice President Mike Pence. The vice president, apparently relying on information from Flynn, initially said the national security adviser had not discussed sanctions with the Russian envoy, though Flynn later conceded the issue may have come up.
The revelations were another destabilizing blow to an administration that has already suffered a major legal defeat, botched the implementation of a signature policy and stumbled through a string of embarrassing public relations missteps.

Tom Cruise's mother, Mary Lee South, dead at 80

Mary Lee South, the mother of Hollywood star, actor, Tom Cruise, has died. Mrs South who has battled with health issues in recent years died peacefully in her sleep last week at the age of 80. 
She was given a memorial service at her local Church of Scientology this past weekend with Tom Cruise and his sisters Lee Ann DeVette, 57, Cass Mapother, 55, and Marian Henry, 52, all in attendance.

Nigerian pupil, 9, brutalized for failing to complete Twi assignment

A 9-year-old Nigerian pupil, Ogechi Nwosu, of Aristoland Montessori School in Nungua, Accra, has been brutally lashed by her teacher for failing to complete her Twi assignment.

“On Wednesday I didn’t do my Twi homework and my teacher caned me on my buttocks.
