Pepsi says it's pulling widely mocked Kendall Jenner ad

Pepsi on Wednesday pulled an ad after it was widely mocked and criticized for appearing to trivialize protests for social justice causes.
"Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding," the company said. "Clearly we missed the mark, and we apologize."

It said it was "removing the content and halting any further rollout."

The ad shows Kendall Jenner, a member of the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" reality TV family, stepping away from a modeling shoot to join a crowd of smiling, young protesters. The protesters cheer after Jenner hands a can of Pepsi to a police officer, who takes a sip.
PepsiCo Inc. had previously said the ad was created by its in-house team and that it would "be seen globally across TV and digital" platforms.

Watch Documentary: How UN Peacekeepers Sexually Abuse Citizens

For decades, United Nations (UN) peacekeepers accused of sexual exploitation and abuse have operated under an umbrella of impunity.
Last week,Christian Saunders, the UN director of the Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Management, told Al Jazeera’s The Stream that this was about to change.
“There is no longer going to be impunity,” he said, adding that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is going to work with member states to ensure abusers are “held criminally responsible” for sexual abuse.
He highlighted that Guterres had committed to “zero tolerance” and the creation of a “high-level task force.” “This was almost the first thing he did taking office,” said Saunders.
Saunders outlined the new four-part UN strategy, which revolves around a victim-centric approach, with victim’s rights advocates in all the major peacekeeping operations; an end to impunity; increased transparency; and an awareness of the broader context of sexual abuse as a danger for women all over the world…

Trump chief strategist Steve Bannon dropped from National Security Council

Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump's chief strategist, has lost his seat on the powerful National Security Council (NSC) in a high-level shakeup, US officials said on Wednesday.
Trump's elevation of Bannon to a permanent spot on the NSC had been widely criticised as injecting politics into White House deliberations on sensitive defence, foreign policy, and intelligence matters.
A former head of the right-wing website Breitbart and now chief White House strategist, Bannon is regarded as a controversial proponent of the nationalistic anti-globalism that helped propel Trump to the White House last November.
In a presidential memo dated April 4, Bannon no longer appears on the list of regular attendees of NSC meetings.
"[Bannon's removal is] striking because many people believed he shouldn't have been there in the first place, and that he was there at the expense of two key roles being removed … the director of national intelligence as well as the joint chiefs…

Eastern Region: Galamsey affecting power supply – ECG

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has revealed that the destructive activities of illegal miners are affecting its operation in some parts of the Eastern region.
The company explained that the illegal miners sometimes prospect for gold around both high voltage and low voltage poles rendering the poles vulnerable to collapse from the slightest rainstorm.
Due to soil incompatibility and erosion of the mining sites the ground is rendered unstable for electricity poles erections, hence, the ECG had to spend extra money to divert voltage lines to areas which can guarantee stability.
The Eastern regional Manager of ECG Ing. Michael Baah said this Thursday in an interview with Starr News during an inspection of  two primary substations at Asamankese and Suhum which are near completion .
He said ECG is in support of the fight against galamsey as it poses serious challenges to the operation of the company .
Illegal mining activities in Ghana has led to the destruction of arable lands…

Stephen Belafonte, the estranged husband of Spice Girl Mel B, could face federal charges for possession of weapons.
The 41-year-old is not allowed to have guns or ammunition after a previous domestic violence conviction — and he's now being accused of domestic violence and sexual exploitation by Mel B in a restraining order request filed Monday, TMZ reports.
Authorities obtained a search warrant on Friday to raid Belafonte's home, but did not find a gun, according to reports.
However, other evidence such as a shell casing and a bullet was discovered, but the gossip site reports that is not enough to be considered "ammunition."
Other evidence was also reportedly seized from the home and the case is being reviewed by the U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles for possible prosecution.
Both Mel B and Belaftone's brother would testify against him, noting they have seen his firearm on multiple occasions.

Suge Knight Claims He Knows Who Killed Tupac—and Says He Was the Real Target

More than 20 years ago, beloved West Coast rapper Tupac Shakur was shot down in Las Vegas, marking the death of a great and the end of an era. While he was tragically taken from us too soon, the 25-year-old Shakur has had an active post-mortem, headlining at Coachella in holographic form and sparking some of the greatest conspiracy theories in pop culture history.
The question of who killed Tupac—a trusty conversation topic across college dorm rooms and Twitter feeds—has gone unanswered for over two decades, but not for lack of trying. One well-worn theory is that the FBI shot Tupac, and were also responsible for Biggie Smalls’ murder six months later. Less cynical fans would like to think that Biggie and Tupac, while enemies by the end of their short lives, have been reunited in fake death and are enjoying a permanent vacation in a secluded town in New Zealand. If the idea of two of America’s greatest rappers denouncing their fame and fortune to become unemployed Kiwis so…

Shabudin Yahaya from the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition said marriage could help victims "lead a better life".
Malaysia, a Muslim-majority country, has just passed a new law on sexual offences against children.
Despite opposition efforts, the law does not ban child marriages.
It remains legal for Muslims under 16 to get married in Malaysia under certain circumstances.
'Remedy to social problems'
Speaking during a parliamentary debate on the bill on Tuesday, Mr Shabudin said that although rape was considered a criminal offence, the rapist and the victim should both be "given a second chance to turn a new leaf".
"Perhaps through marriage they [the rape victim and rapist] can lead a healthier, better life. And the person who was raped will not necessarily have a …

Annie~Joy writes: Your Body Must Push You. Be Inspired!

Has there been an instance whereby you tried to analyze your body, how it was formed, how it functions and how it protects? In your body, you have bones, flesh, intestines, and all that. Ask yourself why are some hard and some soft? How does blood even run through my eyes and it's not visible or show any sign of such.
Have you thought about that? How do you conduct your legs to move and your mouth to talk? Have you asked yourself how you exhale and inhale and how your heart beat comes about? Have you? Have you asked yourself how you can twist your hands around and your sense of human alert away from danger. I know with the help of scientists and their teachers many are privileged to have an idea about how the above mentioned came about.

But the thing is there is more to it. You are pains and struggles and you feel like giving up just because you don't trust the man who constructed you. The artist who drew you. If your human body cannot convince you that GOD IS CAPA…

North Korean ballistic missile fired into the Sea of Japan

North Korea has test-fired a ballistic missile from its eastern port of Sinpo into the Sea of Japan. South Korea's defence ministry said the missile flew about 60km (40 miles).
It is the latest in a series of tests which the North says is peaceful but the international community fears is part of a programme to develop nuclear weapons.
The launch comes on the eve of a visit by China's President Xi Jinping to the US to meet President Donald Trump.
The two will discuss how to rein in North Korea's nuclear and missile programmes.
The North is banned from any missile or nuclear tests by the UN, though has repeatedly broken those sanctions.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson described the launch as "yet another" intermediate range ballistic missile, adding: "The United States has spoken enough about North Korea. We have no further comment."
The US military's Pacific Command said it appeared to have been a KN-15 medium-range ballistic missile.
"The No…
