Meet Peggy Whitson: the woman who just made American history by spending 535 days in Space

Peggy Whitson has broken the record for most days in space by a US astronaut.

Dr Whitson already holds records for the most spacewalks carried out by a woman astronaut and is the first woman to command the International Space Station (ISS) twice.

Now she's beaten the record previously set by Jeff Williams, who had a total of 534 days in space. In November 2016, Whitson and two other astronauts, from Russia and the European Space Agency, blasted off for the International Space Station to conduct hundreds of experiments in biology, earth science and how lighting affects the crew.
The other two are sticking to the schedule, but Whitson, the commander, was just extended by three months, taking advantage of an empty seat when Russia decided to reduce its crew by one.

Her career total of 535 days in space, compiled over three trips to the space station, breaks an American record previously held by Jeff Williams. He has flown four missions, including on Space Shuttle Atlantis, an…

Mel B claims ex Stephen Belafonte is running a pornography production company, could endanger their child

Mel B made another blockbuster claim in her wild divorce drama. Lawyers for the ex-Spice Girl appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Monday and accused estranged husband Stephen Belafonte of running a pornography production company that might endanger the couple's 5-year-old daughter.
Ultimately, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lawrence Riff disagreed, and ruled that after three weeks of no contact, Belafonte would be allowed two 4-hour monitored visits each week.
"The evidence will show that a large number of computers located in the possession of Mr. Belafonte shows he is involved in running pornographic sites," Mel B's lawyer Larry Bakman said.
"(Belafonte) is leasing various locations throughout the city for the filming of pornographic films," Bakman said after the judge issued a tentative order granting monitored visitation.
Mel B, whose real name is Melanie Brown, received full custody of their daughter when she was granted a domestic violence …

Video: Google cofounder's 'flying car' makes its debut

Larry Page's long-rumored "flying car" project is finally ready for takeoff.
Kitty Hawk, a startup backed by the Google (GOOGL, Tech30) cofounder, unveiled its prototype for an "ultralight" aircraft that can take off vertically -- as long as you're flying over open water.
In a demonstration shared online Monday, the Kitty Hawk Flyer is shown lifting off over a lake with the help of small propellers under its base. The prototype looks less like a car than a jet ski with wings.
The Flyer is expected to go on sale by the end of this year, according to the company's website. The price has yet to be announced.
The startup says it has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration for the aircraft to be flown in "uncongested areas." Customers will not need a pilot's license to use it.
"We've all had dreams of flying effortlessly. I'm excited that one day very soon I'll be able to climb onto my Kitty Hawk Flyer …

Al-Qaeda's Zawahiri calls for 'guerrilla war' in Syria

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has called on the armed Syrian opposition to wage guerrilla warfare against the government of Bashar al-Assad and its allies.
In an audio tape titled "Syria will only bow to God", released on the internet on Sunday, Zawahiri urged Syrian rebels to "have patience and prepare themselves for a long war against the Crusaders and their Shia allies".
He urged them to adopt a "guerilla warfare" strategy because it would "weaken and drain the enemy".

The rebels' enemies "are targeting them because they are trying to establish an Islamic rule in Syria, as the West and its allies were doing everything they can to stop it".
Al-Nusra Front, a rebel group, announced in July 2016 that it was ending its formal ties with al-Qaeda and changed its name to Jabhat Fath al-Sham, or the Conquest of Syria Front.

Malaria: Kenya, Ghana and Malawi get first vaccine

The world's first vaccine against malaria will be introduced in three countries - Ghana, Kenya and Malawi - starting in 2018.
The RTS,S vaccine trains the immune system to attack the malaria parasite, which is spread by mosquito bites.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said the jab had the potential to save tens of thousands of lives.
But it is not yet clear if it will be feasible to use in the poorest parts of the world.
The vaccine needs to be given four times - once a month for three months and then a fourth dose 18 months later.
This has been achieved in tightly controlled and well-funded clinical trials, but it is not yet clear if it can be done in the "real-world" where access to health care is limited.
It is why the WHO is running pilots in three countries to see if a full malaria vaccine programme could be started. It will also continue to assess the safety and effectiveness of the vaccination.
Dr Matshidiso Moeti, the WHO regional director for Africa, said: &…

Annie~Joy writes: Inner Man And Outer Man. #BeInsipred!

A week ago, a news was recorded about a bride who got divorced after her marriage ceremony the following day. Do you know why? Because the groom fell in love with her outer man. She had covered her face with makeups therefore she was looking very pretty and stunning. So therefore, the outer man was appealing to the eyes. That's how blind many people are these days when it comes to life partners and many more to talk about.
Many girls these days are fond of spending much time on dressing up to look hot, sexy and expensive instead of their character which will help them be permanent wherever they find themselves. For your artificial beauty, it will take you to places but if you lack the character, it will bring you down. I am not saying it's odd to dress to suit your taste, but the question is, do you have the inner man? How is the character like? Or the outer man is just pretty with nothing traveling through? It does happen, that a pretty lady has been married and …

Lionel Messi’s Last-Gasp Goal gives Barcelona the win over Real Madrid in Breathtaking El Clasico Tie

Lionel Messi scored his 500th Barcelona goal in second-half stoppage time as his side beat 10-man RealMadrid 3-2 in an unbelievable Clasico at Santiago Bernabeu, a victory that puts them top of LaLiga.
Substitute James Rodriguez had scored a dramatic late equaliser that looked like it would give Madrid a draw to put them on the brink of a first league crown since 2012, only for Messi to bring up his milestone with the last kick of the game.
Prior to those late goals, a breathless and controversial contest looked like it would be settled by IvanRakitic‘s excellent strike, especially when Sergio Ramos was sent off for a lunge on Messi. But James then scored within four minutes of coming off the bench to send the home fans wild, only for Messi to steal the show with his second of the match.
The contest was typically controversial, Cristiano Ronaldo having a strong early penalty claim turned down, while Barca wanted Casemiro‘s opener chalked off as they claimed for offside against R…

Caitlyn Jenner Spoofed as 'It' Clown in Ads Near Fox Studio

A conservative street artist has appropriated Stephen King's story It, only in this version Caitlyn Jenner is portrayed as the evil clown.
The artwork, in the form of posters and fake advertisements, showed up Sunday around the Los Angeles Fox News bureau and 20th Century Fox film studio, timed for Tucker Carlson's interview of Jenner during his show Monday night - his debut in the time slot previously occupied by Bill O'Reilly.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in the faux ads appearing on bus benches for the upcoming movie, Jenner is seen peeking out of a sewer drain, where the clown from It dwells, trying to lure unsuspecting children into his lair. "Tonight on Tucker Carlson: IT," reads the text. "Based on a novel reality."

North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson

North Korea is "ready to sink" a US aircraft carrier heading for the peninsula, state media have said.
A commentary in the Rodong Sinmun newspaper warned that the USS Carl Vinson could be sunk "with a single strike".
A battle group headed by the Vinson is expected off the peninsula this week. It was despatched by President Donald Trump amid a warning that US "strategic patience" over the North's nuclear ambitions had come to an end.
Tension also rose after a recent failed missile test by the North and a massive military parade showing off its latest hardware. Sunday's commentary in Rodong Sinmun, the mouthpiece of the ruling Workers' Party, followed a feature on leader Kim Jong-un's inspection of a pig farm.

"Our revolutionary forces are combat-ready to sink a US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier with a single strike," the commentary read, saying that the attack on what it called a "gross animal" would be "an actu…
