Book: Obama proposed to another woman before Michelle

Barack Obama proposed to a serious girlfriend before he met his eventual wife Michelle, according to a new biography of the former president.
The book – "Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama" by David J. Garrow – was reviewed Wednesday in The Washington Post. The review details the book's assessment of Obama's relationship with Sheila Miyoshi Jager, who is now a professor at Oberlin College in Ohio.
Jager told Garrow that Obama asked her to marry her in the winter of 1986. Jager's parents objected to the union, believing her to be too young, as she was in her early 20s and two years younger than Obama.
Their romance continued, but Jaeger says his political ambitions got in the way. Possessed by a sense that he was destined to a life in politics, and could even become the first African-American president, she says race soon cast a shadow over their relationship.
"I remember very clearly when this transformation happened, and I remember very spec…

FBI head 'nauseous' over his possible sway on US election

FBI Director James Comey has said it makes him "mildly nauseous" to think that he could have had an impact on the US presidential election.
But Mr Comey said he thought concealing the discovery of new Hillary Clinton emails would have been "catastrophic".
The comments came during a Senate panel on FBI oversight, in which Mr Comey faced tough questions about his inquiry into Mrs Clinton's private email use.
Mr Comey added that "even in hindsight I would make the same decision".
The remarks are the FBI chief's first public explanation of why he reopened an investigation into Mrs Clinton's use of a private email server just days before last November's presidential election.
"It makes me mildly nauseous to think that we might have had some impact on the election," Mr Comey said on Wednesday.
"But, honestly, it wouldn't change the decision."
Mr Comey added that failing to inform Congress would have been an "act o…

To calm fears, the president's wife Aisha Buhari tweeted on Tuesday that her husband was not as sick as is being perceived.
But as he has not been seen in public for more than a week, Nigerians are continuing to discuss the issue.
In her tweets, Mrs Buhari said that the president was continuing to "carry out his responsibilities" and has been meeting with ministers.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who was the acting presiden…

Michelle Obama takes a swipe at Trump for ending her girls' education program

Michelle Obama just knows how to be classy in all she does, even when it involves calling someone out. The former first lady has shared a photo indirectly letting Trump know that there's no stopping what she has started, even if he succeeds in doing it on an administrative level.

Yesterday, CNN obtained an internal document which revealed that President Donald Trump will discontinue a signature girls' education initiative championed by Michelle Obama when she was the First lady of the United States. The initiative, called "Let Girls Learn" was started by Michelle and Barack Obama in 2015 to facilitate educational opportunities for young girls in developing countries.

Hours after CNN reported on the change by the Obama administration, the White House backtracked and said the program had not changed.

Minutes ago, Michelle shared a photo of her with some young girls and her caption looks like it was directed at the Trump administration, almost as though she w…

I Never Said Ghanaians Don’t Have Common Sense; It’s A Propaganda Against Me – DKB

Ghana’s King of Comedy, Derick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB has received a few bashing by Ghanaians who claim the comedian disrespected them by saying “they don’t have common sense”.

The comedian has responded to these claims and said he make the statement to deter some media people who are trying to destroy the goodwill of Ghcomedy.

“What happened was, some media people disrespected Gh comedy on air and online over its achievements and I responded to them. But my response was misconstrued to mean I was talking to the whole country.

It was them(media people) I was referring to; that if they still don’t find us funny and will willingly destroy Ghcomedy after all we have achieved which they’ve seen and heard then they don’t have common sense. He explained.

“I am never in the position to say Ghanaians don’t have common sense. I respect Ghanaians a lot and if it hadn’t been for their support for comedy, the industry wouldn’t be where it is today. Without them (Ghanaia…

Arnold Schwarzenegger photobombs tourists in Paris

Arnold Schwarzenegger stole the limelight from a group of tourists in the French capital, Paris. The Terminator star couldn't resist diving in front of the Thai visitors as they were posing for a group shot in front of the Eiffel Tower.
On a bike, in dark glasses, shorts and a camouflage jacket, the actor was understandably unrecognisable to them.
He later thanked them on Instagram for "letting me crash your photo!"
One of the Thai group later said on Pantip that he and his companions were about to smile broadly for the snap when someone "rode his bike in front of our shot".

The tourist, posting as Y-G2006, added: "I thought to myself, 'Hey, what a badass!'"
He also said he and his group had no idea at the time who the photobomber was.
It was only down to their guide shouting "Arnold" once Schwarzenegger had ridden off - accompanied by bodyguards on cycles and motorbikes - that they realised who they had been dealing with.

Facebook hires 3,000 to review content

Facebook is hiring 3,000 people for its "community operations team", to help stop hate speech, child abuse and self-harm being broadcast on the website.
Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said it had been "heartbreaking" to see people "hurting themselves and others" in videos streamed live on Facebook.
He added he would make reporting problematic videos easier.
The move follows cases of murder and suicide being broadcast live on the social network.
In April, a man was killed in a video streamed live on Facebook. Later in the same month, a Thai man killed his baby daughter and then himself in a live stream.
Mr Zuckerberg said the additional staff, joining the 4,500 existing people on the community operations team, would help the company respond more quickly when content was reported.
In a post on his Facebook profile, he said the company would develop new tools to manage the millions of content reports it received every week.

Annie~Joy writes: Why Rampant Divorce In Marriage. #BeInspired!

This bond was set from the time of creation. In the pre-historic days when GOD, the Supreme Being, created all things and on the last day created man, He joined both man and woman together in a bond which is termed as marriage today. The traits continue since then till date. Now, my explanation for marriage is, an intimate, legal and complementing union between a man and a woman, in which these two become physically and spiritually one in life.
In this case, I can confidently say, any union which is not physical or spiritual between a man and a woman cannot be termed as marriage. Marriage is when a man and a woman stand before God and the universe and each proclaims and signs legally that this is the man or the woman I have chosen to spend the rest of my entire life with. You the man or the woman have totally denied all proposal from various points just to be with that one person and which is strongly accepted. I would move straight to talk about DIVORCE IN MARRIAGE.
A lot of exercise…

Exam revision students 'should smell rosemary for memory'

With the exam season approaching and revision under way, university researchers have suggested that the smell of rosemary could enhance memory.
A study found that pupils working in a room with the aroma of rosemary, in the form of an essential oil, achieved 5% to 7% better results in memory tests.
Mark Moss from Northumbria University said the findings were consistent with tests on adults. Dr Moss said the study supported traditional beliefs about rosemary.
He said that rosemary had been associated with memory for hundreds of years.
Ancient Greek students wore garlands of rosemary in exams - and Ophelia, in Shakespeare's play Hamlet, says: "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance."
Herb power
The study, to be presented this week at the annual conference of the British Psychological Society, will back the "received wisdom" that rosemary can assist memory.
In the tests carried out by Dr Moss and Victoria Earle, 40 pupils aged 10 and 11 carried out a …
