'Happy coincidence' as five members of one family graduate

It was a special day for Lawanda Flennoy. For 25 years, she worked full-time to raise her three daughters, so finally earning an associate degree this month was especially sweet. 
But the best part is that her children are graduating from school too -- all at the same time.Her daughter Jade says this is a "happy coincidence," but Lawanda says "not so much for me -- it's expensive for me."
Amari just graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is heading off to a job with Ford.

They tried for 17 years to have a baby. Now they have sextuplets

This birth announcement won't fit on your standard 5x7 greeting card. Adeboye and Ajibola Taiwo had tried for 17 years to start a family. Now, they're the parents of sextuplets -- three boys and three girls, all in good condition and absolutely adorable. 
The babies were delivered by cesarean section at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond last week.

Peace Hyde, Don Jazzy, Linda Ikeji in UN’s list of ‘Most Influential Persons’ 2017

British Ghanaian media entrepreneur Peace Hyde has been named in the top 100 UN list of “Most Influential Persons of African Descent” 2017.
The Forbes Africa correspondent joins the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Trevor Noah, Oprah Winfrey and TD Jakes at the inaugural event in New York at the United Nations in September 2017.

Hyde is joining the list of change makers worldwide due to her phenomenal work as a media entrepreneur as well as her philanthropic work dubbed Aim Higher Africa, which has impacted the lives of some 2000 people over the past three years.

Burundi orders couples to wed amid drive to 'moralise society'

Cohabiting couples in Burundi have until the end of the year to get married or face legal consequences.
The government order comes after President Pierre Nkurunziza launched a campaign "to moralise society".
A government spokesman said a crackdown on informal relationships was needed to combat a population explosion.
He said too many schoolgirls were getting pregnant and men were taking advantage of women by cohabiting with several simultaneously.

Fighters kill 28 Christians in Egypt attack

At least 28 Coptic Christians have been killed and dozens more wounded by armed men who attacked them while they were travelling to a monastery in Egypt's Minya province.
The Christians were headed on Friday to the Saint Samuel Monastery, located outside Minya city, about 220km south of the capital Cairo, when the masked attackers, who came in three pickup trucks, opened fire of them before fleeing the scene.

Legendary Nigerian actor, Pete Edochie is billed to speak at the maiden edition of former President Jerry John Rawlings' Revolutionary Lecture Series on June 2 in Accra, a statement issued by the former President's office has said.
Edochie, a former broadcaster will address the theme; "Restoring the values of Probity, Accountability, and Truth in Contemporary Governance" as part Lecture Series slated for 2pm at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons Conference Hall, off the Independence Avenue at Ridge in Accra.

Five Kenyan police killed in roadside bomb attack

Five Kenyan policemen have been killed after their vehicle hit a roadside bomb in the north-eastern town of Liboi, near the border with Somalia. 
The attack happened almost at the exact spot where four officers were killed in a similar attack yesterday, which has been claimed by al-Shabab militants. 
Five other officers were killed in a separate bombing incident on Monday in neighbouring Mandera county.
Al-Shabab has staged numerous attacks in Kenya in recent years.

I won’t shield corrupt appointees – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated unequivocally that he will not shield any public official found to be engaged in acts of corruption or malfeasance, but will ensure that the laws of the land are applied fully, without fear or favour.
According to  Akufo-Addo, the recent news of the arrest of some Customs officials responsible for the loss of some GH¢1.2 billion in revenue to the state is part of the efforts his government is making to block revenue leakages at the country’s ports.

Paris Jackson mistaken for a vagrant on set

So far, 2017 is shaping up to be Paris Jackson's year, but not everyone seems to know her face just yet. On May 25, she was even mistaken for a vagrant!
She wrote about the strange encounter on Twitter shortly after it occurred.
"One of the first people on set, sitting in the parking lot and this dude comes up to me and says homeless people aren't allowed in this area," she said.

Former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor Alex Ashiagbor has died

The former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Alex Ashiagbor, who served from 1977 to 1982 has died, a family member has confirmed to Joy News.

According to the source, he passed on last Friday at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after a short illness.

Mr. Ashiagbor was born in Ghana in December 1931 and held a BSc. Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, University of London.

More shake up in Ghana Immigration Service

Thirty-one middle-level management officials of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) have been reassigned from their duty posts across the country.
This is the second major shake-up under the watch of new Comptroller of GIS, Kwame Asuah Takyi, who took office in March this year.
