KOD to host Miss Universe – Ghana 2017

Broadcaster Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) has been announced host of this year’s edition of the Miss Universe- Ghana beauty pageant.
Now under the management of Menaye Donkor’sMALZ Promotions, the event (which has been held since 1991) has seen several of the contestants/titleholders cultivate their personal career goals and advocate for humanitarian issues with careers in government, business, finance, broadcasting, and film and television.

Donald Trump withdraws US from Paris climate accord

President Donald Trump said Thursday he was withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement, striking a major blow to worldwide efforts to combat climate change and distancing the country from many allies abroad. He said the U.S. would try to negotiate re-entry on better terms.
"As of today, the United States will cease all implementation of the nonbinding Paris accord," Trump said during a White House Rose Garden announcement. Suggesting renegotiating re-entry was not a major priority, he said, "If we can, great. If we can't, that's fine."

American basketball star, LeBron James recently had his Los Angeles home vandalized as racially motivated slurs were found spray painted on the gates. Speaking in a press conference recently, the 32-year old addressed the incident insisting that while he is glad that he and his family are safe, it is still sad that racism is still a far way off from being eradicated. According to ETOnline, Tickets to Ariana Grande's star-studded One Love Manchester benefit concert are all spoken for. 
The widely publicized event sold out to the public within the first half hour, the BBC reports. A Twitter account dedicated to the event claimed that the tickets were all snagged within just six minutes.

Rapper Okyeame Kwame was on Saturday May 27, honoured in Germany for his contributions to Pan-Africanism, and positivity in youth culture. The award was presented to him by Interkulterelle Migraten Integrations Centre (IMAC).
Held at Wandsbek Marktplatz (Hamburg), it was attended by  esteemed politicians as former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawling, Hon. Rashid Pelpuo, respected artists and other showbiz stakeholders.

Google unveils plans for its new £1billion London based Headquarters (photos)

Google has unveiled the final plans for their luxury £1billion UK headquarters. The 870,000 sq ft building planned for Kings Cross in London will be the first office the tech giant has designed for itself outside California. It will have sleep pods, an Olympic sized swimming pool, wellness and fitness centre with a gym and a large indoor sports hall for games and a rooftop field with 200 metre running track to ensure wellness for up to 7,000 staff.

Wiyaala who is currently on tour in the UK and Europe has taken a break from her busy schedule to perform at HRH Queen Elizabeth 11’s Official Birthday celebration which will take place today June 1st at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in Accra.

James Adjei hit his classmate, Richard Larbie with a drawing board after the latter was seen teasing the former for scoring Zero (0) mark in a class exercise.

Over 40 people 'die of thirst' in Sahara Desert

Survivors say 44 people have died of thirst after their truck broke down in the Sahara Desert in northern Niger, the Red Cross has told the BBC.
The six survivors, all women, walked to a remote village and are being looked after in Dirkou, Niger, Red Cross official Lawal Taher said.

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 41-year-old woman who allegedly contracted a man to kill her business partner in Kumasi.

The suspect, Joyce Antwi, who is a trader and a resident of Buokrom Estate, and her intended victim are business partners who trade in plywood at Akwatia Line, a suburb of Kumasi.

Philippines: 10 soldiers killed in 'friendly fire'

Ten Philippines soldiers were killed by "friendly" fire in a military air raid during efforts to take back a southern city sieged by fighters, the defence minister said on Thursday.
Seven other soldiers were wounded on Wednesday when two air force SF-260 close air support planes dropped bombs on a target in the heart of Marawi City, Delfin Lorenzana told reporters. The first plane hit the target but the second missed.

Caroline Sampson is quitting YFM to join Joy FM. According to an insider, the move is almost complete and Caroline will join the Multimedia Group soon.

Immigration officers beaten at Assin-Akropong

Two personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) have been hospitalised after enduring a severe beating at the hands of some residents of Assin-Akropong in the Central Region.
They were attacked in a free-for-all fight with residents,  the Assin Fosu District Police Commander Supt. Magnus Sam confirmed to Starr News’ Central regional Correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour in an interview.

Police release Tiger's DUI arrest dashcam video

Police Wednesday released the dash cam video of Tiger Woods taken in conjunction with conjunction with his DUI arrest earlier this week.
The tape was provided by the Jupiter (Fla.) Police Department.
Woods was arrested on DUI charges Monday morning after police came upon his vehicle parked along the side of the road in Jupiter. There is also minor damage to the bumpers, with the passenger rear tail light is out.

In India, Facebook and WhatsApp group Admins could go to jail for offensive posts

According to a joint order issued by the district magistrate of Varanasi and the city’s police chief, offensive posts such as rumours or fake new circulated through WhatsApp or Facebook groups can land the group admin in jail.

Varanasi DM Yogeshwar Ram Mishra and SP Nitin Tiwari recently issued  a joint order that said an FIR (first investigation report) can be filed against a group administrator if factually incorrect, rumour or misleading information is circulated on his/her social media group. 

Capt. Mahama’s Murder: Report Ready- CDS

The report on investigations into the murder of Captain Maxwell Mahama is ready and the Ghana Armed Forces has pledged to follow its recommendations to the latter.

This assurance was given by the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Obed Akwa, when he, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and other officers of the Ghana Armed Forces visited the family of the deceased in Accra on Wednesday May 31.
