Ireland's next prime minister is a conservative, gay 38-year-old

Ireland is to get its youngest prime minister, and the first who is openly gay. 
Leo Varadkar, the 38-year-old Minister for Social Protection, was elected leader of the ruling Fine Gael party on Friday. He will be confirmed as Taoiseach, or prime minister, when the Irish parliament reconvenes on June 13.

The outgoing Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, stepped down as party leader in May, a position he held since 2002.

Varadkar's sole opponent, Housing Minister Simon Coveney, whose roots in the party run deep, won the backing of nearly two-thirds of the party's regular members.

Man Accused of Stealing Wedding Ring and Backpack From Portland Stabbing Victim Is Captured

Portland police have captured a man who they say stole a backpack and wedding ring from an Army veteran who was killed while defending women on a train from an anti-Muslim tirade last week.
Authorities on Friday said they apprehended the suspect who allegedly stole the personal items from Ricky Best as he lay wounded after being stabbed on the train. Best, 53, was killed along with 23-year-old Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche, after they both stepped in to help two young women who were being taunted by a man on the train.

Brandy Reportedly Hospitalized After Losing Consciousness on Flight

Brandy Norwood was reportedly set to fly from Los Angeles to New York City on Friday when she was found unconscious on a Delta flight.
A spokesperson for the L.A. City Fire Department tells ET that that they responded to an incident at 6:17 a.m. at LAX regarding an unspecified medical complaint, and an ambulance did transport someone from the airport to the hospital. Officials could not confirm any patients' names or the hospital where they were taken.

Kathy Griffin and civil-rights lawyer Lisa Bloom came for Donald Trump Friday.

"I’m not afraid of Trump," she said. "He’s a bully. I’ve dealt with older white guys trying to keep me down my whole career."

She spoke to reporters in order to address what they both view as a disproportionate response by the president and his family after she posed with a fake, severed Trump head for photographer Tyler Shields.

12 Year Old Ananya Vinay Wins Scripps Spelling Bee 2017

A 12-year-old speller from Fresno, California, Ananya Vinay was last night declared champion of the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee, held at the Gaylord Resort and Convention Centre at National Habour Maryland, USA and presented by Kindle.

After many grueling rounds and both remaining contestants spelling their respective words correctly, Vinay earned the title in round 36 when she correctly spelled “marocain,” after Rohan Rajeev misspelled his word.

Dozens dead after gunman storms Manila casino

More than 30 people have died after a gunman burst into a casino in the Philippine capital, Manila, firing shots and setting gaming tables alight, according to officials.
The attack took place shortly after midnight (16:00 GMT) at the Resorts World Manila complex, police said on Friday, adding that all the victims died from suffocation and smoke inhalation.
"Thirty-six deaths, this is due to suffocation," Manila police chief Oscar Albayalde told CNN Philippines.

His wife, children, and some close friends are expected to be present. A source close to the West family told E! that the family will be celebrating in a big way and have already shipped in cases of tequila for the party.

South Sudan vaccination error kills 15 children

At least 15 children have died in South Sudan from a botched attempt to immunise them against measles, officials say.
They were vaccinated with the same unsterilised syringe, and the vaccine was not stored properly, according to an investigation into the deaths.
As a result, the immunisation campaign caused severe infection and sepsis.

Capt. Mahama was to graduate with MSc – Leicester university

University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, has said it has learnt with regret the death of Ghanaian soldier, Captain Maxwell Mahama, who was lynched by a community that mistook him for a robber.

The school in a post on its website said “we have learnt, with great regret, of the death of Maxwell Mahama, a Captain in the Ghanaian Army.”
The school said Capt. Mahama was a “distance learning student in the Department of Criminology reading for the degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Security and Risk Management.”

Man accused of being wizard nearly lynched

A man accused of being a wizard escaped death on his farmland on Thursday at Duusi in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

The man, Kugre Moses aged 36, called on the police to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.

He was allegedly accused by some parents of the area of being a wizard who tries to enchant their children in the area to produce money for him.

The Jaana-Yigantu, the family of the late Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama and the Sissala community of the Upper West Region have appealed to Ghanaians, especially media houses to be responsible and respect the sensibilities of family members by not sharing and showing the photos and videos of the gruesome murder of their son.
“As we grieve, it is our expectation that the authorities will find all the people involved and bring them to justice. That is the least the state of Ghana, which Adam served diligently, can do”.

Horny criminals: Thieves steal 30,000 condoms & sex toys from a warehouse in US

A Sin City warehouse of a Swedish sex toy company in Las Vegas, US was hit by thieves in two separate attacks. According to CNN, over the Memorial Day weekend on Friday night, the bandits broke in and stole boxes containing 30,000 condoms in the first attack.
On Saturday morning, they returned and rammed a vehicle through a delivery door. This time they grabbed boxes containing $15,000 worth of sex toys.

The District Chief Executive for Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central region, Daniel Appianing has laughed off reports that he has been dismissed by President Akufo-Addo.
According to him, he is still at post saying he has never been a happy man until the news of his suspension hit the media.
