Qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Cameroon officially gets underway this weekend and will be broadcast live on SuperSport.

Forty-eight nations drawn in 12 groups of four will contest the group stages. Group winners along with the three best-finishing runners-up advance to the finals.

Comey: Trump White House 'lied' about the FBI

Ex-FBI chief James Comey told Congress that the Trump administration's comments about him and the FBI were "lies plain and simple". 
Mr Comey told a Senate committee they were wrong to denigrate the agency and its leadership.
He was also "confused" by the "shifting explanations" for his sacking, which came as he led a probe into any links between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Comey says he was fired because of Russia investigation

Former FBI Director James Comey asserted Thursday that President Donald Trump fired him to interfere with his investigation of Russia's role in the 2016 election and its ties to the Trump campaign.
"It's my judgment that I was fired because of the Russia investigation," Comey told the Senate intelligence committee in explosive testimony that threatened to undermine Trump's presidency.
"I was fired in some way to change, or the endeavor was to change, the way the Russia investigation was being conducted," Comey testified under oath. "That is a very big deal, and not just because it involves me."

South African TV presenter, Johann Botha killed in armed robbery attack

Popular South African TV presenter, Johann Botha, has died after he was shot during a robbery at a bar in the Maboneng Precinct in Johannesburg. The owner of the bar was also killed in the attack.

Botha was popular for presenting the long-running wildlife show 50/50 on SABC2. He was also a producer on the investigative news programme Carte Blanche and worked on KykNet’s Projek Aardwolf. The news of his death was confirmed in a tweet by Pretoria FM reporter, Anton Meijer.

Arrangements for Major Mahama’s state funeral announced

The State Protocol Office has outlined details of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama’s funeral service.
A statement from the office indicated that, the deceased will be given a state burial with “full military honours at the Osu Military Cemetery, after a burial service at the Forecourt of the State House.”

The late soldier is to be buried on Friday, June 9th, 2017.

GCC nations issue more threats against Qatar

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) threatened to impose an economic embargo against Qatar while Bahrain said "any options" were on the table as the crisis in the Gulf showed no signs of abating on Thursday.

Myanmar plane: Debris and bodies found after search

The Burmese army says debris and bodies have been found after a military plane went missing with 122 people on board.
Dispersed wreckage was found in the Andaman Sea, the military said in a statement on its Facebook page.
The aircraft, a Y-8 transporter made in China, was carrying 14 crew members as well as 106 military personnel and family members, including children.

Mozambique police warn bald men after ritual attack

Bald men in Mozambique could be targets of ritual attacks, police have warned, after the recent killing of five men for their body parts. 
Two suspects have been arrested in the central district of Milange, where the killings occurred.
"The belief is that the head of a bald man contains gold," said Afonso Dias, a police commander in Mozambique's central Zambezia province.

Manchester United tops list of World's most valuable soccer teams in 2017

English club, Manchester United have replaced European champions Real Madrid, as the world's most valuable soccer team, according to the annual list published by Forbes on Tuesday. 

Manchester United were valued at $3.69 billion, an 11 percent jump compared to last year. Barcelona were second on the list with a value of $3.64 billion while Real Madrid, who held top spot for the last four years, fell to No. 3 on the list, valued at $3.58 billion.
