Wayne Rooney is expected to make his Everton debut in the unlikeliest of venues when The Toffees play Gor Mahia in Tanzania on Thursday.

The prodigal son is due to make his return in Everton colours in the SportPesa Cup, which marks the beginning of an avalanche of off-season football that will be broadcast on SuperSport.

According to Cecil Sunkwa Mills, General Manager, Multichoice Ghana, “SuperSport remains the home of international soccer following the extension of the broadcast rights for the Premier League till 2023 and same for the major UEFA tournament till 2022”.

Ex-Brazilian President da Silva convicted of corruption

Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been convicted of corruption charges and sentenced to nine and a half years in prison.
The judge ruled he could remain free pending an appeal.
Lula has rejected claims that he received an apartment as a bribe in a corruption scandal linked to state oil company Petrobras.

Ariana Grande to become Manchester honorary citizen

Manchester officials say they are making U.S. pop singer Ariana Grande an honorary citizen of the city because of her response to the deadly concert attack in May.
According to Associated Press, City council leader Richard Leese proposed the move, describing the 23-year-old singer as "a young American woman for whom it would have been understandable if she never wanted to see this place again."

President Akufo-Addo has cited lack of jobs for the youth as the single biggest challenge facing the country.
Addressing the president of Switzerland, Doris Leuthard, who is on a day’s official visit to Ghana, Akufo-Addo bemoaned the seriousness of the challenge, saying there are too many young people in the country without jobs because the economy has stagnated for so long, making job creation an impossibility.

Ray Phiri: South Africa’s Graceland star dies

South African jazz legend Ray Phiri has died at the age of 70 after a two-month battle with lung cancer.
The guitarist, producer and vocalist rose to fame when he featured on Paul Simon's Graceland album in 1986.
He was admitted to hospital two weeks ago and died in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

23-year-old man arrested for raping his 58-year-old mother in South Africa

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested a 23-year-old man for raping his 58-year-old mother. According to Police report, the suspect raped his mum at her home in Ekuthuleni locality, Elliot on 3rd July 2017. After the dreadful act, he fled the area and couldn’t be traced.

It was on Monday, 10th July 2017 that members of the taxi association identified the suspect. They arrested him and handed him to the SAPS.

A Ghanaian police officer identified as Ebenezer Kofi Okyere, who works with the Central Police Station in Kumasi in the Ashanti region in Ghana, committed suicide at his home today July 12th. 
According to Ghanaian OAP, Issac Bediako Justice who shared the story online, the neighbors of the deceased officer woke up to the sound of a gunshot that emanated from his room.

Ghanaian player kills mom, sister in Italy

A young Ghanaian player Solomon Nyantakyi has been arrested in Italy for allegedly killing his mother and younger sister Tuesday evening in Parma.
The two were stabbed to death at home, according to Eurosport. His mother Patience Nfum was 45 years while the sister Magdalene Nyantakyi was 11 years old.

Nigeria's sick president meets Osinbajo

Nigeria's Acting President Yemi Osinbajo held a "very good" meeting with ailing President Muhammudu Buhari in London on Tuesday, Mr Osinbajo's spokesman has said. 
It was the first meeting between the two leaders since Mr Buhari, 74, flew to the UK on 7 May to be treated for an undisclosed illness.

Minimum wage up by 10%

The National Tripartite Committee has announced a 10 percent increase in the daily minimum wage. As a result, the new minimum wage is 9.68 cedis up from 8.80 cedis.
The change will take effect on January 2018. The decision was taken on Tuesday after a marathon meeting held by the government, labour and the employers association.

Prison Service to recruit 1,000 officers to enhance reformation

Government has given approval to the Ghana Prison Service to recruit 1,000 officers to enhance its performance so as to meet the international best practices in prison administration.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia made the disclosure in Accra on Tuesday at the inauguration of a 13-member Governing Council of the Ghana Prisons Council.

He urged the Council members to offer their skills and expertise so as to recruit the right calibre of personnel to the expected standards.
