MTV Video Music Awards nominations announced, gender-specific categories dropped

On Tuesday via Instagram Live, MTV announced the nominees for the 2017 Video Music Awards, and the DAMN. rapper led the way with eight nominations for “HUMBLE.,” the first single off his recent album, which debuted to critical and commercial acclaim in April. Among the video’s nominations are those for Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, and Best Direction.

Video: One person confirmed dead in Tamale floods

One person has been confirmed dead following a heavy downpour in the Tamale metropolis that lasted for about four hours on Tuesday.
The name of the deceased person was given by the Police as Hajia Fati Dabuni, a teacher who was said to be driving a Toyota RAV 4 vehicle with registration GT 8271-11 which was swept away by the flood water.

A bride and groom attempting to drive off to their happily ever after instead fell flat on their backs — literally.
At the close of their wedding, bride Hana Haka Noland and her new husband Tyler Noland perched on the back seats of a convertible and waved goodbye to their guests. But as the car pulled away, the newlyweds go flying out the back.
Hana, before the vehicle took off, is seen throwing her hands in the air and can be heard screaming at the driver, “Leggo Dave!”

Buhari: I am making good progress

Nigeria's ailing President Muhammadu Buhari has written to his Guinean counterpart Alpha Conde to thank him for the nationwide prayers he had organised for his recovery, his spokesman Femi Adesina has said Mr Buhari, 74, has been in the UK for almost 80 days, receiving treatment for an unspecified illness. 
In his letter, Mr Buhari assured Mr Conde - the current chairman of the African Union - that he was making "good progress", and would return to Nigeria to resume his presidential duties as soon as his doctors gave him the go-ahead, Mr Adesina said.

Ethiopia urges illegal workers in Saudi Arabia to come home

Ethiopia says that only a fraction of its citizens working illegally in Saudi Arabia have returned home before today's amnesty deadline.
In March, the Gulf state said that those without papers would not be arrested if they left within 90 days.
The deadline was extended by another month, but so far only 60,000 out of an estimated 400,000 Ethiopians have left, the Ethiopian government says.

Usher Accuser Increases Herpes Lawsuit To $40 Million After Testing Positive

The woman suing Usher for allegedly hiding his herpes diagnosis from her before they had unprotected sex has reportedly increased her lawsuit from $10 million to $40 million after testing positive for the STD.
As Gossip Cop reported, Usher was sued last week by a plaintiff identified as “Jane Doe,” who alleges the singer exposed her to herpes without her knowledge when they had sex earlier this year. The plaintiff claims she wouldn’t have slept with Usher had she known he was carrying the virus. Doe’s legal filing was sparked after the National Enquirer and RadarOnline revealed last week that the musician settled a $1.1 million lawsuit in 2012 after allegedly infecting a woman with the disease. The plaintiff in the latest case says she only discovered Usher’s diagnosis as a result of the media coverage.

Justin Bieber cancels remaining Purpose World Tour dates

Justin Bieber has cancelled the rest of his Purpose World Tour because of "unforeseen circumstances", his publicist has said.
The move will affect 14 dates in Asia and North America over the next three months.
Bieber has performed more than 150 shows since the tour promoting his 2015 album Purpose began in March 2016.

Canadian polygamous leader found guilty of having 25 wives

Two former leaders of an isolated polygamous community in Canada were convicted Monday of practicing polygamy after a decades-long legal fight, setting up another potential court battle over the constitutionality of Canada's polygamy laws.
Winston Blackmore, 60, and James Oler, 53, were found guilty by British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Sheri Ann Donegan, who said the evidence was clear that Blackmore was married to 25 women at the same time and that Oler was married to five women in the tiny community of Bountiful.

South African child 'virtually cured' of HIV

A nine-year-old infected with HIV at birth has spent most of their life without needing any treatment, say doctors in South Africa. 
The child, whose identity is being protected, was given a burst of treatment shortly after birth.
They have since been off drugs for eight-and-a-half years without symptoms or signs of active virus.

A Controversial Book About The Last Days Of Nelson Mandela Has Been Withdrawn By The Publisher

A controversial new book about the last days and life of South Africa's former President Nelson Mandela titled 'Mandela's last years' has been withdrawn by the publisher.
Late Mandela's family had complained that the book, written by his doctor, Vijay Ramlakan, contained personal details about the last days of the former president and freedom fighter.
