Photos: Armed robbers storm police station in Ghana, gun down an officer before freeing 6 of their colleagues including a Nigerian

Armed robbers in the early hours of Sunday, stormed the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters, gunned down an officer on duty before freeing six of their colleagues in custody.

The freed suspects includes five Ghanaians and one Nigerian identified as Chibuzo Akwuba. The slain police officer is pictured below...

The Ghana Police Service have begun a manhunt for the suspects. Speaking to the press, the Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afia Tenge called on the public to remain calm. She assured that the service will to go out to bring the perpetrators to book.
"The police is containing the situation, the situation is under control and we are doing everything we can to bring the perpetrators to book, to get them arrested. So for now, we have to assure the public that we are doing everything humanly possible to get these suspects arrested and also give the general public the needed security” she said.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Ghana Police Service early in the day visited the crime scene to get first-hand information on the incident.

Inspector General of Police David Asante Apietu, Director of General operations, Dr. Dampare, Acting Director General, CID, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwari Addo Danqauh and DCOP George Mensah visited the scene.
