Agya Koo Is More Popular Than John Dumelo – Creative Arts Minister , Hon Catherine Ablema Afeku
The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Hon Catherine Ablema Afeku claims that Kumawood actor Alex Kofi Adu affectionately known as Agya Koo is more popular than international actor John Dumelo per the statistics available to the Ministry.
Her statement comes after she was severely criticized by stakeholders in the entertainment industry regards her decision to start Agya Koo and Daddy Lumba TV.
“Agya Koo is more popular, when you go to my constituency, the people in the rural areas know Agya Koo but when you mention John Dumelo, they don’t know him.” explained Afeku during the launch of Agya Koo TV at the Accra Mall on Sunday, February 4th, 2018.
In an interview with media, Hon Catherine Afeku explained that Apps for artistes such as Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Jackie Appiah, Lil Win and others are in the pipeline but Agya Koo has been chosen as number one because a scientific survey conducted by the ministry which considered both online and stratified sampling in their research methodology indicates that he is the topmost local content brand.
When interjected that John Dumelo has the largest number of followers online, the Minister insisted that Agya Koo is more popular than John Dumelo because people in the rural areas know Agya Koo but do not know John Dumelo.

Prior to the launch of the Agya Koo TV App, the minister announced at a press conference that as an initiative of the Ministry, it is partnering a private entity to project creative artists and their works but she received a huge backlash from the public because people claimed it is a misplaced priority.
