Ghana Playing a Lead Role in the Development Efforts of Africa - Belgian Queen Mathilde Observes
The Queen of Belgium, Her Majesty, Queen Mathilde has stated that
Ghana is playing an admirable lead role in the development efforts of
the African Continent and the entire world, particularly Belgium, will
continue to cheer her on to achieve more.
Speaking in response
to a statement by President Akufo Addo at a work lunch held at the
Banquet Hall of the Flag Staff House in her
honour, Queen Mathilde said Ghana's current strides in the development
of its economy as well as the role being played by her President as
Co-Chairperson of the Group of Eminent Personalities for the
implementation of the United Nations, Sustainable Development Goals
(SDG's) are clear pointers to the leadership that Ghana is demonstrating
on the continent.
Implementation of SDGs
The Queen in her speech indicated that her country and Ghana have made tangible commitments to the implementation of the UN SDGs till date. She added that there are clear challenges ahead of both Belgium and Ghana in the quest to fully achieve the targets set by the SDGs by 2030. However, all the effort and support needed by both countries will be invested and provided on both sides in order to attain the SDGs.

President Akufo Addo welcomed the Queen warmly to Ghana. The President observed that the implementation of the SDGs is in the interest of Africans more than it is in the interest of the European continent and that is the reason why he and his government have attached so much importance to the implementation of same in Ghana. He added that Ghana looks forward to a sustained partnership with Belgium so Ghana can emulate the success story of Belgium.
