Queen Elizabeth honours SA woman with Commonwealth Point of Light Award
The Artscape Theatre’s chief executive Marlene le Roux has received the Commonwealth Point of Light Award.
The award has been created to recognise
outstanding volunteers that have delivered a significant impact on the
lives of others and for creating innovative approaches to social
challenges.
Le Roux has been recognised by the Queen of England for her tireless work in the disability sector.
“I sincerely receive this esteemed honour
with gratitude. It is a privilege for me to represent the African
continent. Furthermore, I have had the opportunity to have a son, Adam,
also with a disability. This has taught me about life challenges,
especially for mothers and caregivers who are tasked to nurture such
gifts.”
