Rape lawsuit against Russell Simmons dropped
One of Russell Simmons' rape accusers has dropped the $5 million lawsuit she filed against him.
Jennifer Jarosik, an aspiring documentary filmmaker who
accused Russell Simmons of rape asked the court today to dismiss the
lawsuit.
Jennifer filed a civil suit in U.S. District Court in January,
accusing the music executive of rape and sexual battery when she
approached Simmons seeking help in producing and financing a film.
She alleged that the founder of Def Jam Recordings befriended her,
invited her to his Los Angeles home under the pretext of discussing the
film project, and then assaulted and raped her. The lawsuit sought $5
million in damages.
Simons denied raping her and said that on the occasions when they had sex, it was consensual.
On Wednesday, April 25, 2018, Jennifer dropped her claim. Both
Simmons and Jarosik asked that the case be dismissed, suggesting some
settlement had been reached. According to The Hollywood Reporter,
Simmons and Jennifer "filed a joint stipulation of dismissal with
prejudice."
Simmons still faces another $10 million lawsuit for raping an unnamed
accuser. He has denied all of the many sexual misconduct claims made
against him.
