Ghanaian Music Maestro, Kojo Antwi honoured in Burkina Fasso

Ghanaian Music Maestro, Kojo Antwi was amongst a select West African musicians honoured at the Marley d’Or 18, held in the Burkinabe capital of Ouagadougou, last Friday.

The event is held annually in memory of the late Reggae icon, Robert Nesta Marley (widely known as Bob Marley) who passed on to eternity on 11th May, 1981.

In a telephone conversation with Suncity Radio, on his arrival back home, Kojo said he was highly elated and fulfilled for being recognized by Francophone countries.

“They love my music so much, even though they don’t understand the language, and the fact that it’s not easy to be applauded by Francophone countries, gives me that fulfilling experience,” he said.

The “music man” further stated that it was good to be recognized world-wide, and this accounted for the great respect that West African musicians have for him. “They said they liked my style of music,” he said of the French speaking West African countries.

Kojo used the opportunity to urge his colleagues in the Ghanaian music industry to step up their performance to attain greater heights, stressing that language should not be a barrier.

He thanked his numerous fans and Ghanaians in general for their unflinching support, which has shot him to fame, and commended the management and staff of Sunyani-based Suncity Radio for giving him the platform to appreciate his fans and country.

Other West African musicians honoured at the event were Ishmael Isaacs (Ivory Coast), Solo Hah Hunt (Ivory Coast), Koko Dembele (Mali), Kwamy Mensah(Spain) and Oscibi Johan (Burkina Faso) and many others.
