Governor of the State of Nevada in the United States of America, Brian Sandoval, has disclosed that his State will foster strong collaborations with Ghana on sectors such as Mining, Tourism, Renewable Energy, Agriculture, Education and Water.

Addressing the Press at the Jubilee House after visiting with President Akufo Addo as part of a six-day working visit to Ghana, Governor Sandoval said he is honoured to lead the first ever trade mission from Nevada to Ghana. He indicated that he has had several meetings in Ghana since arriving on the 25th of July, 2018, in search of possible areas of collaboration and it is clear to him and his team that there are several potential avenues for collaboration.

On mining, the Governor stated that the State of Nevada is a leader in mining in the US and Ghana also has a mining sector that is rapidly growing. Tourism according to the Governor, is the number one industry in Nevada and opportunities exist here in Ghana for stronger ties between the State of Nevada and the Republic of Ghana. Renewable energy was the next focus of the Governor. Nevada, he said, leads in that regard in the US and will be willing to offer Ghana any support to develop its renewable energy sector. Focusing on Agriculture, Governor Sandoval said he sees opportunities in the sector and a strong relationship between Ghana and Nevada would result in a win win situation for both states.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, (Drones) according to the State Governor is one of the major areas of possible collaboration. According to the Governor, his state is one of six in the United States where drones or UAVs can be tested. To that end, "there exist opportunities in that sector for collaboration", the Governor stated.

On education, Governor Sandoval said he has in his team, representatives from educational institutions in Nevada who are talking to Ghanaian educational authorities on students and faculty exchanges between Ghana and Nevada.

The last area of interest the Governor said is water. He said the US Desert Research Institution, a leading organization in water research, is based in Nevada and the President of the Institution is part of his team that is visiting Ghana. Possible avenues where Ghana and Nevada can work together in water security are also being discussed.

The Governor was accompanied to the seat of Government by outgoing US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Jackson, the Director of International Trade at the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development, Jared Van Wagoner and the Executive Director at the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic development, Paul Anderson.
