Watch: Ghanaian Engineer, Dr. Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu Works on Robotic Arms for Mars

Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu is a Ghanaian-born robotics engineer at NASA and is the chief engineer of a team that designs robots for NASA missions at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu was born in Ghana and begun his education at the Ghana Secondary Technical School. He was the leader of the team that designed the Mars Rover robot that landed on the red planet.

In an interview on BBC, Dr, Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu noted that he had started a project in his home country of Ghana to make a more likable and fun subject. He worked on the Phoenix (spacecraft) that found water on Mars.

He is currently working on robots for the InSight mission. Landing in November 2018, NASA's InSight will probe beneath the surface of Mars, study the planet's interior and shed light on how rocky planets - inside and outside our solar system - form.
