Billionaire tells new college grads he's paying off all their loan debt

As graduation season approaches, many are thinking of their next move whether it’s looking for a career or figuring out how they are going to pay Sallie Mae.

On Sunday morning, billionaire Robert F. Smith received an honorary doctorate at Morehouse College. During the commencement exercises, Smith announced that he will be giving a $1.5 million gift to the school. The school stated that the funds will be used for scholarships and a new park.

The billionaire technology investor and philanthropist surprised nearly 400 graduating seniors with a grant to eliminate student loan debt to the entire class of 2019.

“This is my class,” he said, “and I know my class will pay this forward.”

The gift has been estimated at $40 million.
