Nairobi Governor owns 200 'legal' cars

Flamboyant Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has hit back at his critics who often question how he amassed wealth saying all the properties he has acquired were obtained legally and genuinely. 

The county chief said it was unfair for people to question his source of wealth and associating him with imaginary illegal business deals without understanding where he has come from.

Speaking to NTV, Sonko said he has over 1,000 title deeds for pieces of land that he acquired genuinely and over 200 vehicles registered under his name.

"I own properties all the way from Lamu to Vanga. I have got over 1,000 title deeds of properties which I own genuinely...I own around 200 cars," he said

The governor, who is known for flashing out money to his fans, said he was among the first investors in Nairobi who introduced the graffiti and the modern comfort witnessed in the matatu sector. 

"My wife was the first proprietor in transport who imported double-decker buses post-colonial era."

"I used to run a club and I had several musicians who used to perform there including Matonya, Alikiba, Ken Wa Maria and even Jaguar started off his singing career at my club when he used to come there wearing slippers," said Sonko

While admitting he has been in court on several occasions, the 44-year-old man said he has never been involved in any corrupt cases and he will never touch even a single coin from the public coffers with the aim of diverting his businesses. 

He said he is ready to spend his wealth with the poor and he had even spent part of his money for Nairobi county's beautification project.
