Bride price - celebrating tradition or demeaning women?

The paying of a bride price remains a debate in Africa - with some arguing it is a tradition and others saying it demeans women.

Some say that is only symbolic, but campaigners fear that it is being misused and exploited as tens of thousands of dollars can change hands. The cash is normally paid to men in the bride’s family.

BBC Newsbeat's Nyasha Michelle dug into the topic and filmed British couples of African decent.

Geoff and Angela, like many couples whose families come from Ghana, have chosen to express their identities by having a traditional wedding, which includes the paying of a bride price.

Watch the preparations, rehearsals and their big day - and hear why a traditional wedding is important to them and whether when big sums are involved there should be a line drawn between upholding tradition and human rights.
