Haiti’s First Lady Shares First Photos Since Deadly Attack

Many are rejoicing as Haiti’s First Lady Martine Moïse shares the first images of herself since the heinous attack that left her wounded and her husband, President Jovenel Moïse, dead.

In a tweet from her official Twitter account on Wednesday, Martine shared a photo of herself in the hospital bed, where she has been recovering since the July 7th assassination of the President that shook Haiti. In the caption, she wrote of the disbelief she feels that her husband of 25 years was ripped from her life so suddenly.

“I still don’t believe that my husband has gone like this before my eyes without saying a last word to me, this pain will never pass,” she wrote in Haitian Creole.

The first lady thanked the medical staff, whom she called “guardian angels,” for helping her to recover from her injuries.

On Sunday, Haitian authorities arrested a 63-year-old man Christian Emmanuel Sanon. They believe that he is the mastermind who assembled over 20 people to carry out the brutal attack, which was politically motivated. Sanon and two of the suspects are Florida residents. Police say Sanon traveled to Haiti on a private plane back in June with plans to kill President Moïse, who was shot 12 times inside of his bedroom. While some suspects have maintained that the plan was only to overthrow Moïse, authorities believe that the group held meetings to plan how the country’s future would look without the President.
